Green Lane/Belmont Ave Bridge Rehabilitation Project
Overview
The Green Lane/Belmont Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation Project will restore the structure to a condition that can ensure a long service life with minimal future maintenance. Funding for this project is provided by the Federal Highway Administration, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, City of Philadelphia Department of Streets, and Montgomery County.
The 7-span concrete arch bridge is a nearly 100-year-old vital connection linking Manayunk in Philadelphia with Lower Merion Township in Montgomery County. It spans the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, Manayunk Canal, and adjacent walking and biking trails. This bridge opened to traffic in 1928 and has historic significance as a concrete arch bridge and as part of the Manayunk Main Street Historic District.
Over time, the bridge has experienced significant wear with parts of it deteriorating. It's crucial to repair it to ensure safety and usability for everyone.
